“ Welcome ” Backpacking was my number one sport as a youth. To go to places that are wild and untamed was always the greatest thrill. Painting outdoors, via “plein air” is exhilarating. When at a new location, I am looking for what my subject Is communicating. All my senses are heightened and my responsibility to capture that moment’s composition, perspective, and color notes, are solidified. In my studio, I take a fresh look, making sure the colors are clean and harmonious. This process forces the artist eye to be ever vigilant and growing. The Patriot, 16 x 20” oil on board. 5 inch Dark walnut wood frame, with gold leaf inner trimming. Painted on the San Luis Obispo, Cal poly campus. I added the faint USA graphics to the top of the barn… An afterthought of patriotism.
