“ Welcome ” Backpacking was my number one sport as a youth. To go to places that are wild and untamed was always the greatest thrill. Painting outdoors, via “plein air” is exhilarating. When at a new location, I am looking for what my subject Is communicating. All my senses are heightened and my responsibility to capture that moment’s composition, perspective, and color notes, are solidified. In my studio, I take a fresh look, making sure the colors are clean and harmonious. This process forces the artist eye to be ever vigilant and growing. Growing up Half a mile away from a working dairy farm, influenced me to explore the anatomy and attitude of these powerful docile animals. Out of college I painted over 30 large paintings and had a one-man show in Pasadena, 1988. This one was recently cropped and touched up and was left over from that series.
