“ Welcome ” Backpacking was my number one sport as a youth. To go to places that are wild and untamed was always the greatest thrill. Painting outdoors, via “plein air” is exhilarating. When at a new location, I am looking for what my subject Is communicating. All my senses are heightened and my responsibility to capture that moment’s composition, perspective, and color notes, are solidified. In my studio, I take a fresh look, making sure the colors are clean and harmonious. This process forces the artist eye to be ever vigilant and growing. “African Royalty”, 16 x 20 oil on stretched canvas. Painted from Live model set up at Palos Verdes art center. For me a magical hour and a half focused study, while beautiful African drumming music played in the background. Only touchup was my signature bottom left.
